The exciting thing that happened this week was my trip down to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. no, i wasnt there to look for a job at an embassy, though i couldnt help thinking about my ambition/dream/fantasy from last year of becoming Siberian ambassador. so the little recruit is at MFA to deliver some parcels. only about 30 of them. unfortunately i dont get to go inside the front lobby. instead i get directed to some obscure corner of the building where a little sign board says Despatch Office, which is a nicer name for mailroom. "cannot have all the mail and parcels at the main lobby lah! the minister for foreign affairs might be coming any moment!" the guard tells me. to be fair he was pretty friendly. though in my mind i was thinking "then the defence minister can always call him up and say sorry for blocking his way what!" but of course, the little recruit is not in the position to object and does as he is told. the MFA building by the way, is in a really high class area. tanglin. also home of the american embassy, british high commission, australian high commission, china embassy and about a million other diplomatic institutions. the government is really into creating hubs. we have jurong the industrial hub, biopolis the bio-tech hub, kallang the sports hub, geylang the *cough cough* hub, lim chu kang the graveyard and farms hub and tanglin the diplomatic hub! really interesting come to think of it. fass. political science. diplomat overseas. everybody has a little dream.
