At long last, the government is finally doing something about the public transport system. but i still have my doubts. their hub-and-spoke concept doesnt cut it for me; i think having direct routes to my destination are much better. everything in singapore is about creating a hub of some sort somewhere isnt it? and the example given in the newspaper was so familiar. 10 min wait for bus to train station. 5 min wait for train. another 5 min wait if changing train. finally a 10 min wait for the bus from train station to destination. all added up it is half an hour of doing nothing! the common man on the street has been plagued with this problem for eons and now all of a sudden it is a big thing that warrants a huge diagram that takes up half a page. they should make me transport minister hehe.. i also read that the target is for 8 in 10 commuters to reach their destinations in an hour. that sounds a pretty vague target for me. orchard to city hall doesnt take an hour. orchard to choa chu kang takes 1 hour plus plus. oh wait.. thats right.. i happen to be part of the 20% that are excluded from the target set. lucky me. i'm just part of the "bigger picture" huh.. you know, by the time all these are done, i'll probably be driving already...
