Today i ran 10 rounds round the track. 4km of nonstop running. i really dont know where i got the stamina, but two things came to mind as i ran. the first was that, the more i ran, the more i felt i was letting go of all the stress. somehow with my mind fixed on getting my legs to move, all other thoughts are pushed out. it was strange really. usually i think of how much more to go. today, all i did was will myself to go further.
the second was a constant word that kept popping up in my mind: Rest. not exactly the most encouraging thing to think of when you're trying to move your tired legs. but it just kept coming after every few steps. i thought that it was the normal body's reaction to fatigue. but after the 10th lap, as i was walking up and down to cool off, did i suddenly think that maybe, just maybe it was God's voice? i think God wants me to rest. i need to take a break from rushing around. i need to take a break from the various burdens i carry. i had a sudden imagination of me as a pastor at the pulpit telling the congregation that i wouldnt like to see them all 52 sundays of the year. take a rest! i just needed some time to do nothing. have no agenda. not worry. watch tv. sit on the sofa and stare at the white walls. i shall read psalm 23 before i sleep.
