The boston brass are one very wacky, insane and crazy bunch of musicians. which is great since they throw normal concert etiquette out of the window. and while playing louder, faster and higher than everyone else is a great recipe for success, they are quite capable of turning the slower pieces into hair-standing stuff too. best of all, there isnt some stuffy emcee at the side giving a boring introduction before each piece; the five of them do it with large helpings of humour.
"you're all here for a great time of chamber music!" - j.d. shaw
"the brass quintet is for people who are too badly behaved and cant sit still long enough to be in the orchestra or band." - j.d. shaw
"the next piece is a latin song. but it was not written by a latin composer." - jose sibaja.
"and jeff loves chicken!" - lance laduke
"ta ta ta ta..." - jeff conner's part in the world premier of 'takata'
"ka ka ka ka..." - andrew hitz's part, also in 'takata'
"for some reason, the guys always want me to introduce the latin songs of the show. i dont know why." - jose sibaja
"it was written without his presence, because well, his presence wasnt there." - j.d. shaw
"i've made fun of jeff several times tonight and i would like to apologise. now, the next piece we're playing is called 'the chicken'" - lance laduke
but this last one is my favourite:
"trumpet players are egoistic, big-headed and narcistic. but i meant that in the nicest possible way!" - j.d. shaw
I would like to say i am indeed very proud that i am, you know, actually quite a humble person. =)
